Photo Exhibition

The most important aspect of academic freedom is freedom to learn, teach, freedom of thought, freedom to speak and to ask questions and answers that pursue every problem on the horizon without unreasonable interference or restriction from law, institutional regulations, or public pressure and to pursue their academic career in a peaceful environment.

Nepal has been witnessing much disorder in the field of academic freedom due to interference from different groups (political , Social and Cultural) and the students are the most affected ones especially during civil strife or civil unrest or any sorts of strikes occurred. The educational Sectors has been the most vulnerable ones at the very time.

There is a ongoing tendency to burn out school buses and the saddening thing is the students and teachers themselves go for strike for months disturbing the study schedules and schedules of exam as well. Many of the times a 4 year course takes 6 years to complete because of the strikes and several postponing of the exam schedules. Similarly, the teacher’s inappropriate ways of teaching where they have been seen using harsh means of punishment to make students comply with their teaching methodologies and sometimes students are also seen creating unwanted disturbances in the classroom making teachers hard to teach. And Yet the cruel nature of nepotism and favoritism where one gets the opportunities and another is left empty handed, this very nature has created unusual biasness and has highly demoralized the self esteem of students in many of the school and colleges of Nepal.

And another imperative issue is” most of the female groups down their in the remote areas due to societal pressure and stigma are forced to stay away from pursuing their academic career.

Today academic freedom has been a less discussed topic and a very challenging issue all over the world and especially in countries like Nepal where the realization on the part of the authority is almost zero and no action has been taken so far to make them realize that academic freedom is attained through mutual efforts of students and teachers. I believe that academic freedom should protect the right of a professor or student to teach and learn in an appropriate environment with a free mind.

So forth, we have chosen “Photo Exhibition” as an strong step to create public awareness among the students and teachers and the public regarding the importance of freedom to study, learn and teach respectively in a liberal environment.
